My father died suddenly from a heart attack aged just 59, and we never had time to say goodbye.
This is an image that I made after the news of his death. It's a memory of when I used to go with him to work, he was a horticulturalist, and when I was a girl in the 1980s, he used to put blackout blinds in the greenhouses to regulate the light. It was always a race to follow Dad through the door into the next greenhouse before all the blinds wrought complete darkness. But I felt at the moment he died that he'd gone off into the next greenhouse and left us all behind in the dark. And we couldn't follow him there.
